Pappa, McBride help Fire double D.C. 2-0

WASHINGTON -- Marco Pappa and Brian McBride scored late goals to give the Chicago Fire their first win, a 2-0 victory against winless D.C. United on Saturday.

Pappa scored in the 79th minute, finishing high past goalkeeper Troy Perkins after McBride's back-heel flick redirected Patrick Nyarko's cross.

McBride scored 10 minutes later, heading a long ball from his own goalkeeper, Andrew Dykstra, past Perkins and inside the near post to seal Chicago's first win in Washington since May of 2008.

he Fire (1-2-1) becomes the fourth team to get its first win of the season against D.C. (0-4-0), which matched its worst start in franchise history with the loss.

United's last three opponents have scored game-winning goals in the 79th minute or later.
