Student loan changes welcome
With all the hoopla over health insurance reform it is worth noting another important part of the bill. That is the part dealing with financial aid and the repayment of student loans.
As of 2014, a graduate's repayment will be capped at 10 percent of their income. With the cost of attending college increasing, the debt taken on by many students is a great burden. It will be comforting to know that the burden has now been decreased.
Also, for graduates entering into public service jobs, for example education or law enforcement, the loan will, I understand, be forgiven after 10 years.
As the mother of a college senior who plans to work in the public service sector, I am pleased to learn of this development. I encourage every student attending college to apply for financial aid even if they don't believe they qualify because it is a first step for scholarships, loans and grants. Good luck, Class of 2010!
