Man accused of robbing high school classmate

Familiarity breeds arrests.

Officials said a Wadsworth man should have thought better about robbing someone who could pick him out of the high school yearbook as well as a police lineup.

Assistant State's Attorney Steven Derue said William Iverson, 25, is looking at up to seven years in prison for a snatch-and-run stunt last October at a gas station on Greenbay Road in Wadsworth.

Derue said Iverson, of the 40000 block of Forestview Road, sauntered into the station about 1:45 a.m. on Oct. 9 and bought a package of chewing gum.

When the clerk opened the cash register to make change for Iverson, Derue said Iverson reached into the cash drawer, scooped up $60 and beat it out the door.

The clerk called Lake County sheriff's police and told officers that he recognized Iverson because they went to high school together.

Police showed the man a series of mug shots, and the man picked out Iverson from the group, Derue said.

Iverson was able to lay low on the warrant that was issued for his arrest until March 2, when police found him in an apartment in Winthrop Harbor that they were checking for drug activity.

Iverson told police his name was Dustin McGwire, Derue said, but a fingerprint check put that notion aside and produced the robbery warrant.

Iverson is being held on bond.
