'Seven Deadly Sins' letter was absurd
The author of the April 10 Fence Post letter titled "The pope's Seven Deadly Sins" is himself guilty of committing the following Seven Deadly Sins:
1. Alleging that a U.N. study of "international journalism" is a prerequisite to justify the statement in a Daily Herald story: "That the Vatican has had a communications problem during Benedict's papacy is fairly well established." Such an allegation mocks any pretense of logic.
2. Contending that "Vatican issues are filtered through a hostile media." Some media trying to incriminate the pope does not make all media hostile.
3. Asserting that U.S. media are hostile toward the Vatican. Same refutation as in No. 2.
4. Claiming that "the mainstream media is waging a war against Pope Benedict XVI." Same refutation as in No. 2. Plus, what is "mainstream media"?
5. Stating that "this war will not relent unless he (the pope) desists and repents of his Seven Deadly Sins." This statement is too bizarre to be considered rational.
6. Assuming there is a link between the author's so-called Seven Deadly Sins and "Catholic sex abuse in Ireland, Austria and goodness only knows where else . . ." Trying to link the author's preposterous Seven Deadly Sins with anything at all is absurd.
7. Posturing himself as the arbiter and judge of all things Catholic. Who died and relegated this author with such all-encompassing wisdom?
