Martin wants to be part of Notre Dame memories
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Chuck Martin knows how important it is for Notre Dame to have a winning football team.
The 42-year-old defensive backs coach knows what it is to live and die with the Fighting Irish. He's been doing it his whole life, even when he was leading Grand Valley State to two Division II national titles and a runnerup finish in six years as head coach.
He's counting on the defensive backs playing a big role in helping to turn around Notre Dame, which has gone 16-21 over the past three seasons.
He's been too busy working, though, to spend too much time reflecting on what it means to be coaching at Notre Dame. He says he'll worry about doing that after the Irish win some games.
