Iowa releases Mundelein's Brust from commitment
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa has released Ben Brust from his national letter of intent, but are determined to get him to commit again to the Hawkeyes.
Iowa coach Fran McCaffery said in a statement Monday the guard from Mundelein is still very much interested in the Hawkeyes. However, Brust wants the new coaching staff to pursue and re-recruit him.
Brust is the latest Iowa recruit to be released from his commitment. Cody Larson, a forward from Sioux Falls, S.D., was released Friday from his letter of intent. Both Brust and Larson signed with coach Todd Lickliter, who was fired March 15.
McCaffery says he had encouraging conversations with Brust on Saturday and visited Larson and his family on Thursday.
Heelan forward Zach McCabe and Devyn Marble of Southfield, Mich. have said they remain committed to the program.
