Republicans voted with most Americans

In a letter to the Daily Herald printed on April 4, Bridget Murdoch writes " ... I can't believe a single Republican didn't vote his (sic) conscience and support his (sic) constituency" and goes on to accuse Republican lawmakers of inciting crowds, concluding with a reference to a Salem witch trial.

What part of poll findings that the overwhelming majority of Americans oppose health care reform does the author not get? Therefore, it was the Republican lawmakers who precisely supported their constituencies by echoing the concerns of most, rather than bolster personal ideology or the opinion of few. The "whipping up" of emotion by Republicans, referenced in the letter, is merely the tip of the iceberg of what many are feeling.

As for the "terrible example" set by misguided lawmakers, yes - let us reflect on the threats, bribes and backroom deals that were imperative to passing the bill, while we wait on impending court challenges as to the constitutionality of its substance and tactics used.
