Indiana man shot by Will County deputy
FRANKFORT, -- The Will County Sheriff's Department says it is investigating a deputy's shooting of a Merrillville, Ind., man who had a history of stalking his former girlfriend.
The shooting occurred Friday morning inside a home in a neighborhood called Frankfort Square.
The Merrillville man, 48-year-old Richard Petrick, was in critical condition Friday evening at Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
The sheriff's department says a woman spotted Petrick hiding in the bushes in front of her home, so she and hit a panic alarm button which had been installed because someone at the home has an active order of protection against Petrick.
Officers who went to the scene they ordered Petrick to drop the handgun he was carrying, and he refused. They say he was shot after he entered the back door of the house.
