U of I tuition to rise around 10 percent
CHAMPAIGN -- University of Illinois interim President Stanley Ikenberry expects tuition at the schools' three campuses to increase by 9 to 9.5 percent for the next school year.
That's down from his worst-case projection in early March that tuition for students entering the university next fall might increase by up to 20 percent. Ikenberry said Thursday the university's own cost-cutting plan is yielding enough savings to allow him to lower his projection.
Incoming freshmen would pay the increased tuition rates for four years, while rates for current students wouldn't increase.
The university is owed $464 million by Illinois' financially strapped state government.
