No tuition increase at Southern Illinois University

CARBONDALE -- There's good news and bad news for incoming Southern Illinois University students. They'll face no increase in their tuition next year, but they are likely to have to pay more in fees.

The school's board of trustees has begun looking at more than a dozen proposals to increase fees at both the Edwardsville and Carbondale campuses.

The proposals include adding $5 to the student-center fee and tacking on $10 to the athletic fee.

The board's likely to vote on any increases next month.

While students have expressed concerns about fee increases, they're pleased tuition will stay the same. There's hope a decision not to raise tuition costs will help boost enrollment.
