Volunteers needed:Volunteers are needed for an annual community improvement project in Mundelein. This year's A-May-Zing Mundelein event is scheduled for May 8. Crews will clean gutters, replace rotted deck boards, pull weeds and handle other tasks for people in need. Last year, 271 volunteers completed more than 53 projects. To volunteer or get more information, call (847) 968-3770.Stevenson House tours:Guided tours of the Adlai E. Stevenson Historic Home are being offered at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 25, and Saturday, May 22. Participants will see the home, including the study where the former Illinois governor and presidential candidate met with dignitaries such as John F. Kennedy and Eleanor Roosevelt, as well as the service building and grounds. Tours are open to visitors 8 and older. Cost is $3 for Lake County residents; $5 for nonresidents. Reservations are required at lcfpd.org or (847) 968-3321. The home is on St. Mary's Road, a mile south of Route 60. Visitors can take self-guided walking tours of the grounds from 6:30 a.m. to sunset daily.Forest district buys more land:Two Lake County Forest Preserve District committees on Thursday approved land purchases that will expand three forest preserves. The purchased include: a 10-acre addition to Oak-Hickory Forest Preserve in Wadsworth for $360,000, a nearly 5-acre addition to Singing Hills Forest Preserve in Volo for $248,000 and a 0.17-acre addition to Greenbelt Forest Preserve in Waukegan for $110,000. Money for the land buys will come from funding approved by voters in 2008. The purchases are contingent on approval April 13 by the full forest preserve district board, with closing in 60 to 90 days.
