Chicago man arrested in Elgin armed robbery

Andres Oquendo, 24, of the 4300 block of West Shakespeare Avenue, Chicago, was arrested and charged with armed robbery about 1:45 a.m. Thursday in the 1200 block of Bradley Avenue, reports said.

A victim called police about 9:20 p.m. Wednesday and said he was robbed at gunpoint in the 600 block of Slade Avenue, reports said. The victim said it was payday at work and he was walking home when a man with a gun approached and demanded money, according to reports.

The victim threw his wallet on the ground and the robber took money from it before leaving in a Jeep that circled around the block, police said.

The victim got the license plate and called police, who later went to Bradley Avenue and searched a residence where reports state they recovered the money and found a gun, along with 1.6 grams of cocaine.
