Celebrate Earth Day at Crabtree Nature Center

Forty years ago, Earth Day helped start a green revolution that has changed everything from the air you breathe, to the car you drive and the garbage you throw out. Come celebrate this Earth Day at Crabtree Nature Center in Barrington from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, April 17, and Sunday, April 18. Part of the Forest Preserve District of Cook County, Crabtree has free activities to help you explore, enjoy and educate about the environment.

Visit stations on the Green Walkway to see how nature recycles, make your own paper and learn how worms can eat your garbage. To help you green up your home free trees will be available while supplies last.

Activities for children include Springo Bingo, planting seeds in a special viewer and seeing animals up close.

On Sunday REI and L.L. Bean will jump start your exploration from Noon-3 p.m. when REI bike techs will tuneup your bike for spring before you go for a ride on Crabtree's new bike path. Or hit the hiking trails with some hiking hints from L.L. Bean as they help you find your way with GPS and compass.

Crabtree is located on Palatine Road, one mile west of Barrington Road, in Barrington. For additional information, call (847) 381-6592.
