PGA's Reno-Tahoe Open ups purse to $3.5 million
RENO, Nev.-- The PGA Tour's Reno-Tahoe Open is boosting the purse for the July tournament to $3.5 million.
Last year's $3 million purse was the smallest on tour.
Tournament director Jana Smoley announced Tuesday night the PGA is kicking in the extra $500,000, which will put Reno on par with the Puerto Rico Open in March. Smoley says it is a sign of the tour's commitment to the event.
The winner's check will climb from $540,000 to $630,000 for the tourney July 15-18 at Montreux Golf & Country Club. It is the first increase in the purse since 2000 when it went from $2.75 to $3 million.
