Political debate sounds like bullying
I applaud your call for a "different political reality: one where Democrats and Republicans respectfully and openly debate important issues with the intent of reaching consensus."
Respect and intent to reach consensus has been lacking for quite some time, no matter what side of the aisle you are on.
It is also happening outside of Washington, on the airwaves, in neighborhoods, schools and the workplace. The United States of America was founded on the idea that different points of view would be respected, not embraced by all but at least respected.
We are trying to teach children not to be bullies in school but adults are doing it day after day in Congress, the media and everyday life. It must stop. This lack of respect for each other weakens our country more than the deficit, jobless claims or the housing crisis.
