Keep Fox Valley Golf Club as is

The city of Aurora has announced it intends to sell the Fox Valley Golf Club on Route 25 in North Aurora. I urge the Fox Valley Park District or the Village of North Aurora to purchase the golf club and retain it as a golf course, convert it into a park, or add it to Red Oak Nature Center.

Last year, the golf club provided outdoor recreation to more than 23,000 people. This local course attracts golfers from beyond the Fox Valley. After playing golf they stop at local stores and restaurants, thus generating tax revenues and employing people. The golf club, built more than 80 years ago, is part of North Aurora's history. It provides open space adjacent to the Red Oak Nature Center, a unique nature preserve and educational site that welcomes thousands of visitors throughout the year.

I realize it may be difficult for the park district or village to afford this purchase. However, if the property is sold to commercial interests, then the history, beauty and recreational benefits will be lost forever. As a result, I believe this is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and I encourage the park district and village to partner together to retain the golf club property as a recreational site for current and future residents of the Fox Valley.
