Durbin's stance on abortion wrong
The Catholic bishops and cardinals of the United States have unanimously and unequivocally opposed the recently passed Obamacare legislation, stating hat after consulting with numerous legal experts, the legislation provides for direct federal funding of elective abortions in certain circumstances, as well as providing for federal subsidies for health plans that cover such abortions.
Sen. Durbin, in his guest view article in the March 25 Daily Herald, disagrees with the bishops, stating that the legislation prohibits federal funding of elective abortions. He cites some nuns as supporting his stand.
Sen. Durbin was once pro-life and claims to be Catholic, but he is currently one of the foremost defenders of abortion rights in this country today. Both Pope Benedict and the U.S. bishops have clearly stated that this position is unacceptable for any faithful Catholic.
Now logically, one side in this controversy must be wrong; and, again from a logic standpoint, is either misinformed or lying.
As a lifelong Catholic with the benefit of 16 years of orthodox Catholic education, there is no doubt in my mind as to who is correct.
