Lake Zurich police still investigating crash that killed Lake Barrington man
Lake Zurich police said an investigation is still ongoing into the death of an 83-year-old Lake Barrington man following a one-car crash Friday morning.
Robert Potter, formerly of Palatine, was headed north on Route 12 near North Old Rand Road when his Lincoln Town Car traveled 25 feet off the road and struck a concrete barrier.
Potter, the sole occupant, was extricated and taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, where he was pronounced dead.
Police, who closed the northbound lanes on Route 12 for two hours while investigating the scene, said alcohol didn't appear to be a factor in the crash.
According to his obituary, Potter owned an advertising and broadcasting agency and served in the U.S. Navy. He was an avid fisherman and member of Trout Unlimited. Potter was also an ardent University of Michigan football fan and a member of the university's Alumni Association.
He was survived by his wife, Jeanne, his brother, six children, 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main St., Barrington. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. that day, followed by burial in Evergreen Cemetery.
