Cops: Downers Grove man head butted Naperville officer
A Downers Grove man is accused of head-butting a Naperville police officer during a DUI arrest, police said.
Michael S. Zeer, 34, was pulled over at 12:09 a.m. Sunday at Washington and Jefferson streets in downtown Naperville, and tested for driving under the influence, Cmdr. Mike Anders said.
After failing the test, Anders said, officers began placing Zeer under arrest, but Zeer fought back.
During the struggle, Zeer head-butted one of the officers before handcuffs were applied to his wrists, Anders said.
After he was cuffed, Zeer continued to struggle, Anders said, by "twisting and turning and throwing his body weight around in an attempt to resist arrest." The moves caused him to stumble and trip, striking his head against his SUV that caused a cut above his nose, Anders said.
Zeer was charged with battery, resisting a peace officer, driving under the influence, unsafe backing on a roadway, crossing the double yellow line on a roadway, failure to signal and two counts of disregarding traffic control signs or signals, Anders said.
Both the officer and Zeer were not seriously injured in the altercation.
Zeer was freed after posting bond, Anders said. His arraignment date is pending in DuPage County Circuit Court in Wheaton.
