Man arrested after scuffle with Elgin officers

An Elgin man is in hot water after a scuffle with two police officers after a traffic stop Sunday night.

Roger D. Eason, 30, of the 400 block of Mosley Street, was a passenger in a 1996 silver BMW convertible that was pulled over by police at 9:42 p.m. at Carr Street and South McLean Boulevard, reports said.

Police learned that Eason was wanted on a warrant and tried to arrest him, but he shoved one officer into a car - injuring his back - and pushed another officer into another vehicle, resulting in a cut on his finger, reports said.

Eason was eventually subdued with pepper spray and charged with aggravated battery to a peace officer, aggravated resisting a peace officer, possession of a controlled substance and possession of cannabis.

Police found 3.9 grams of pot on Eason at the scene and another small bag of cocaine on him at the department's sally port, report said.

Eason told police he purposely dropped the small bag of cocaine on the ground during the walk from the squad car to the Elgin jail, reports said.

His bond was set at 10 percent of $75,000 Monday morning and he is due in court on Wednesday.

The most serious charge carried a 2- to 5-year prison term.

The driver of the car, Ronald T. Carter, 44, of the 300 block of Jefferson Avenue, was arrested and charged with driving while license revoked, speeding and no insurance, police said. He is due in court on May 3.
