Photo contest: Amateur photographers are encouraged to enter one photo, which must be taken at the Chicago Botanic Garden, to be judged by facility staff and other visitors to the Garden's Web site. The winning photo will be featured on the Web site, which is seen by nearly 1 million people a year. The Web site will be updated weekly with entries. Visitors can vote online for their favorite photo from June 21-30. Winners will be announced July 1. Professional photographers and Garden staff are not eligible. Applicants should indicate where and when the photograph was taken. There are no age limit or categories. Staff photographer Robin Carlson will provide expert tips at 9 a.m. the first Saturday of each month in the East Greenhouse Gallery. Visit chicagobotanic.org/contest.Vaccinations, microchips available in Lindenhurst:The Lindenhurst Police Department along with the Lake County Health Department will host a pet vaccination and microchip clinic on Saturday, April 10, 9 a.m. to noon, at Village Hall, 2301 Sand Lake Road. The shots and chips will be offered at reduced rates. The event is open to all Lake County residents. A microchip offers police departments and pet shelters a way to identify a lost pet. A wide selection of books sorted by category are available as are videos, CDs and puzzles. A selection of Civil War books was recently received.
