Buffalo Grove police arrest more than 30 underage drinkers

More than 36 suburban families spent a good part of the Easter weekend at the Buffalo Grove police station after police broke up two underage drinking parties in less than two hours.

Many of those arrested were Buffalo Grove High School students, said Police Chief Steve Balinski.

"We want to get the message out with prom approaching we won't tolerate this," Balinski said. "Unfortunately these kids made a bad decision and will be held accountable."

According to a Buffalo Grove police news release, the first group of people were arrested at about 11:30 p.m. on Saturday at a home in the 500 block of White Pine Road. Those arrested and charged with unlawful possession and consumption of alcohol by a minor were: Buffalo Grove residents Abby Weiss, 18, Daniel Strissel, 18, Lisa Carlin, 18, Elizabeth Dziatko, 18, Zev Katz, 18, Laura Broderick, 18 and Chad Lovelace, 18; Arlington Heights residents, Kayla Basso, 18, Michael Akers, 18, Nicholas Fanelli, 18 and John Angotti, 18; Wheeling residents, Miguel Chihuahua, 20 and Fernando Ponc, 19, police said.

Another seven Buffalo Grove juveniles, ages 15 to 17 years old, were also arrested along with two 16-year-olds from Glenvew, one 17-year-old from Wheeling and seven 17-year-olds from Arlington Heights, police said.

Gregory Betz, 18, lives at the home on White Pine Road and was charged with unlawful possession and consumption of alcohol by a minor and a local ordinance social hosting charge for hosting the party, police said.

Balinski said Betz's parents were out of town this weekend. Everyone who was arrested posted bond and will appear at the Lake County Courthouse on April 30.

The second party occurred at about 12:30 a.m. on Sunday at a house in the 100 block of Old Oak Court West. Buffalo Grove police arrested five people at this second party.

Anna Kiejkik, 19, and Agata Kiejkik, 19, from Kalamazoo, Mich., were charged with unlawful possession and consumption of alcohol by a minor along with one 17-year-old from Wheeling and one from Buffalo Grove, police said.

Arturas Sigajevas, 20, lives at the residence on Old Oak Court West and was charged with unlawful possession and consumption of alcohol by a minor and a local ordinance social hosting charge for hosting the party, police said.

Everyone who was arrested at the second party posted bond and will appear at the Lake County Courthouse on May 13
