Konerko has no worries about treatment for thumb

Paul Konerko's not getting any younger, so even a hint of injury or discomfort is cause for concern to the White Sox.

Konerko had a cortisone shot in his chronically sore right thumb in Arizona on Wednesday, but the 34-year-old first baseman brushed off the procedure.

"We did it last spring and it seemed like it helped," Konerko said. "The whole thing is staying ahead of the pain without waiting until it's really, really bad. We figured the goal is to start playing (Monday), so let's get it in there because you do need a day off, at least.

"I knew at the beginning of spring I was going to get it, it was just a matter of what day. There has to be some inflammation for the medicine to grab on to otherwise it's pointless. If I would have come in the first day of spring training, that would have been wrong."

Frank TV: Frank Thomas was at Sunday's workout at U.S. Cellular Field and the retired slugger is going to be at all White Sox home games this season in his new gig as Comcast SportsNet baseball analyst.

"It'll be fun," Thomas said. "My son (Sterling) is a senior in high school so I'll be able to get back home (Las Vegas) and watch him play. Knowing the guys, knowing the players, knowing their swings, hopefully I can see something that others don't see and talk about it."

Thomas said he wants to offer advice to Sox hitters and presents no conflict to hitting coach Greg Walker.

"I wish I had enough people around me that I know that played with me doing the same thing," Thomas said. "I'm not crossing a line. Walk and I are always on the same page. We're disciples of Walt (Hriniak). If he sees something, I see something, we'll talk about it. We've always had an open door about that, even when I played and he was my hitting coach."

Castro on the DL: The White Sox placed backup catcher Ramon Castro on the 15-day disabled list Sunday (retroactive to March 29) with a bruised right heel.

The Sox purchased Donny Lucy's contract and assigned him to the 25-man roster.

Lucy has played six season in the White Sox' minor-league system. He appeared in 8 games with the Sox in 2007 and was 3-for-15.

"I feel proud of him," manager Ozzie Guillen said. "He went through all of the stages in major-league baseball. He's here because I think he did a tremendous job with our pitching staff and he went about his business the right way. This guy works so hard and everybody loves him."
