Geneva man charged with attempted murder in stabbing incident
A man thought he would be a peacemaker Saturday night, trying to break up a fight he saw outside a Geneva apartment.
Instead, Geneva police said his reward for intervening was being stabbed four times. As a result, police have charged a 26-year-old man with attempted murder.
Brent A. West, of the 700 block of North Street in Geneva, faces attempted murder charges after he stabbed the victim in the back of his leg and twice in the abdomen, police said. The victim raised his hand to block West and was also stabbed in the left wrist, police said.
Police found the victim on the ground and conscious. Paramedics took him to Delnor Hospital in Geneva where he's recovering, police added.
The incident stemmed from a fight between West and a woman sometime before 11:30 a.m. Saturday inside an apartment on the 700 block of North Street. The two engaged in an argument which resulted with West grabbing her neck, police said. West later decided to take a drive, police said. When he returned outside the apartment, West found the woman had disconnected the battery to his vehicle and he proceeded to choked her, police said. Police said several red marks were found on the woman's neck.
The male victim saw the fight and tried to intervene, telling West he disconnected the battery, police said. West went inside and returned with 4-inch kitchen knife and attacked the unarmed victim, police said.
Police also charged West with aggravated domestic battery and two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. He is being held on a $500,000 bond at Kane County jail.
