Kildeer woman charged with stealing from grocery store

A Cook County Circuit Court judge set bail at $40,000 for a Kildeer woman who authorities say tried to steal items from a Palatine Dominick's Finer Foods store by hiding them under her skirt.

Anifa Ivanov, of the 22000 block of White Pine Road, was arrested Friday at the store located in the 600 block of E. Dundee Road, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Ina Kantor.

The 24-year-old woman wore a long skirt over jeans, Kantor said. Under the skirt, she had a sack into which she's accused of placing various items totaling more than $150, Kantor said. Ivanov did pay for some items at the checkout line, but not those she had hidden, Kantor said.

The married mother of three has been out of work for the last year, said Assistant Cook County Public Defender Kathy Ward.

Ivanov received two years probation following a 2007 forgery conviction in Lake County. She also received two years probation for a retail theft in 2006. That same year, a warrant was issued for her arrest after she failed to appear in court.

She next is scheduled to appear in court on April 29.
