There's no reason to kill coyotes
I could not believe the article March 10 regarding the trapper near Wheaton paid to capture and kill coyotes. The article states the trapper is to target diseased coyotes and those that exhibit aggressive behavior. Since he is placing traps and catching random coyotes and killing them the same day - boasting four on his first day - how long did he observe the captive coyotes to determine they were aggressive or diseased?
This plan seems like a plan to get rid of coyotes bothering certain people. Where is the funding coming from to pay this man? This trapper earned $4,500 in one day!
I too live in an area where coyotes are frequent visitors to our yard and neighborhood. I also have two dogs, and never once would I consider that the coyotes should be removed.
We have seen them during the day and never once have they run up to us or tried to interact in any way. People need to be educated and learn about the coyotes.
Even with a boxer and a Labrador, larger breeds of dogs, I would never think of letting them out day or night unattended or without bright lights in the yard.
Coyotes can climb an eight-foot fence.
A little education and planning could stop this type of thing from growing in popularity.
