Health care must be available to all
As a recent Medicare recipient, I want to thank Rep. Bill Foster for supporting the health care legislation. I volunteer regularly in Elgin because I feel that for the benefits the community provides me as a senior citizen, a little payback is a good thing. But the imperative for a healthy and wealthy community is available medical care for all, not just for seniors. If your neighbor is ill, most of us would do what was needed to help. Let us remember that our neighbors are more than the people next door.
Rep. Foster's vote was courageous. As a Democrat in a previously Republican district, there were many reasons for him to abstain or vote no. Even as a Democrat, there were reasons to consider a no vote. Instead he looked at the greater good and decided that a century of failed health care initiatives was enough; enough to risk a much more difficult campaign. But then this is a businessman who has risked before and succeeded.
