Man shot in Elgin Historic District; three sought

Elgin police have confirmed that someone was shot this afternoon at South Chapel and Fulton streets on the city's east side and they are looking for three people in connection with the crime.

Police said the male victim was shot just above the left knee.

The Elgin Fire Department responded to the scene at 12:25 p.m. and took the victim to Provena St. Joseph Hospital, where he was recovering from the nonlife threatening injury, Capt. Dave Schmidt said.

The offender, described as a 25-year-old Hispanic or light-skinned black man, was last seen fleeing north on Gifford Street at Prairie Street.

Police are also looking for a Hispanic man last seen riding away from the scene on a BMX bicycle and another Hispanic man with a shaved head, who was running south on Gifford near Prairie Street. Check dailyherald.com for updates on this story.
