Hanover Park police find drugs, guns, ammunition in home

A felon living in Hanover Park was found Wednesday night with a stash of drugs, guns and ammunition, authorities said.

Edwin Izaguirre, 25, of the 7000 block of Mulberry Street, appeared at a bond hearing Thursday in Rolling Meadows, where Cook County Circuit Court Judge Joseph Urso set bond at $500,000.

The Hanover Park Police Department's Special Operations Group executed a search warrant at Izaguirre's home around 8 p.m. Wednesday.

In addition to finding seven grams of cocaine and 520 grams of cannabis, officers found Izaguirre in his bedroom with a 12-gauge sawed-off shotgun and a .40-caliber semiautomatic handgun, Assistant State's Attorney Mark Javier said.

Authorities also discovered a digital scale and 200 rounds of .40-caliber ammunition.

Javier said Izaguirre, who was sentenced to probation in 2004 for possession of a controlled substance, claimed responsibility for the items.

The drugs tested positive for cocaine and cannabis, Javier added.

Izaguirre was charged with unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to deliver, and unlawful possession of cannabis.

He is due in court April 28.
