Cops seek man accused in McDonald's incident

A Cook County circuit court judge has issued an arrest warrant for a 34-year-old former Des Plaines-area man accused of doing thousands of dollars in property damage and harming employees at a local McDonald's.

Daniel Gilardon, whose last known address was in the 8800 block of Northshore near Des Plaines, was charged with one count of criminal damage to property and three counts of battery. Bond was set at $30,000 Thursday by Circuit Court Judge Marsha Orr.

On March 25, Gilardon threw a tantrum because he thought he had given a female cashier at the McDonald's at 444 S. River Road a $20 bill but received change for $10, according to the police report.

He kicked at the cash registers and knocked a credit card reader off the counter, threw hot coffee that splashed the face of one female employee and hurled an egg sandwich that hit a second female employee in the head, according to the report. The property damage was estimated at $4,000, police said.

Des Plaines police Cmdr. Nick Treantafeles said that when contacted by phone Gilardon refused to cooperate or come in to talk with police.

"We don't know where to locate him," Treantafeles said. "We've tried looking for him at several places, past residences. That's why we've obtained warrants."

Police went to Gilardon's last known address and found he doesn't live there anymore.

Gilardon has been ordered to appear in court at 10:30 p.m. April 29. However, police are not actively looking for him and expect he will be caught if he comes into contact with any authorities, Treantafeles said.

According to the police report, Gilardon was overheard telling his female companion to get the car ready because he was going to kick the registers and they would have to leave in a hurry.

The two fled in a black SUV, heading north on River Road. Witnesses identified the woman, and officers found her at her place of employment. They found Gilardon through her.
