Wednesday's Fox Valley roundup

Burlington Central 9, Highland 2: The Rockets resumed their winning ways in the second game of their downstate swing. Junior Sam Klein (3-0) earned the victory on the mound after his teammates scored 3 times in the fifth inning and added 3 more in the sixth. Austin Jarvis (2-for-3), Nolan Anderson (2-for-4) and Nick Hahn (1-for-3, 3 RBI) each doubled for the Rockets (6-1).

"We didn't play too well to start the game," Central coach Kyle Nelson said. "Highland bunts and uses the hit-and-run a lot, and we had trouble picking up the ball. Once we settled down we played well and had some good at-bats."

Central returns to northern Illinois today to face Nelson's alma mater, Hinsdale South, in Hinsdale at 1 p.m.

Dundee-Crown 12, Buffalo Grove 6: The Chargers (3-2) turned up their offense early and led 10-1 through 4 innings of play to come away with a nonconference road victory at Buffalo Grove. Steve Schwartz led the offensive onslaught as he went 3-for-4 with a double and 3 RBI. Scott Nowicke and Chris Sailor each homered and drove in 2 runs. Mike Lodi picked up the victory on the mound, giving up 4 earned runs and scattering 8 hits with 2 strikeouts in 52/3 innings.

West Aurora 11, Larkin 10: The comeback effort by the Royals (1-5-1) fell just short as West Aurora pushed a run across in the bottom of the seventh to end Larkin's rally. The Royals trailed 7-1 before they rallied to tie the game at 10 in the sixth. Junior Victor Saldana turned in a perfect performance at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a double and 5 RBI to lead the Royals offensively. Senior Jake McCleary suffered the loss after he allowed 1 earned run in 12/3 innings.
