Terry in command as Fremd tops St. Charles East
Clint Terry got ahead of the hitters and Fremd (2-3) stayed ahead after the second inning of a 9-0 nonconference baseball win Wednesday at St. Charles East.
The senior left-hander scattered 5 hits in 62/3 innings and had 6 strikeouts and no walks. Terry (1-2) threw first-pitch strikes to 19 of 25 hitters and came out when he hit the 100-pitch mark.
"He did a much better job of getting ahead of the hitters," said Fremd coach Chris Piggott. "He pitched well. He pitched good enough to win his first couple of games but we didn't play very well defensively behind him."
Kevin Ciardiello was 2-for-4 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI and Matt Koeppen drove in 2 runs as the Vikings broke it open with a 5-run sixth.
Stevenson 11, Palatine 0 (5 inn.): Northwestern-bound Kyle Ruchim threw a 2-hitter and Stevenson (4-0) scored 10 runs in the first two innings of the nonconference win at Palatine (3-4).
"They barrelled everything Byron (Skinner) threw up there," said Palatine coach Paul Belo. "It was one of those days.
"Ruchim just attacked us and pounded the zone."
Mike Luschen singled in the third and Cody Bobbit had an infield single in the fifth for Palatine.
Dundee-Crown 12, BG 6: Ryan Nisbet homered but BG (5-1) fell behind 10-0 after 31/2 innings in the nonconference home loss.
Glenbard North 13, Schaumburg 4: Matt Glombicki went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, Kevin Hilliard was 2-for-4 with a double and Matt Brancato had 2 RBI for Schaumburg (1-2) in the nonconference loss.
