Bail set for woman and daughter team charged with theft
A Cook County judge set bail at $80,000 for a 42-year-old woman and $10,000 for her daughter Wednesday after police charged the duo with stealing a $335 watch from a Hoffman Estates resale shop.
Delores Dyson, of the 100 block of Washington Blvd., in Hoffman Estates, must post $8,000 to be released from jail. A 1999 bond forfeiture warrant combined with multiple convictions for similar crimes may have contributed to the high bail.
Her daughter, Lashawntae Dyson, of the 200 block of St. Charles Road in Carol Stream, must post $1,000.
Authorities say Lashawntae Dyson, 24, took the watch Tuesday afternoon from a display case in a store on the 1100 block of Roselle Road. After the women left, a clerk noticed the watch was missing, said Assistant State's Attorney Adam Klugman. The store's video surveillance tape shows Lashawntae Dyson putting the watch in her mother's purse, Klugman said.
Dyson later admitted she took the watch while her mother acted as lookout.
Delores Dyson's criminal behavior dates back 18 years and includes multiple felony convictions for theft that sent her to prison five times over the last 12 years, records show. She has also been sentenced to Cook County Jail seven times since 1992.
Lashawntae Dyson received probation for possessing a stolen motor vehicle in 2005, Klugman said.
The women could face two to five years in prison if convicted. They next appear in a Rolling Meadows courtroom on April 21.
