Thanks to Farnham for opposing cuts

I would like to thank Rep. Keith Farnham for holding a news conference to express his opposition to the cuts to local government that Gov. Quinn has placed in his proposed budget. We need more lawmakers like Farnham to stand up and make their voices heard so that important funding for our city is not cut.

I realize that times are tough at all levels of government, but for the state to cut funding to local governments would be devastating. Our city struggled to balance our budget and now the state is threatening to unravel that hard work. I agree with councilmen Rich Dunne and John Steffen. This is an effort to push the work the state needs to be doing onto the local governments. This proposed cut would probably hurt the city's delivery of core services and force more layoffs.
