The Larkin baseball team braved the cold and earned its first victory of the season on Thursday: an 11-5 win at Oswego East.

The Royals (1-3-1) broke free from a 1-1 tie by exploding for 8 runs in the top of the fourth inning, and they tacked on single runs in the fifth and the seventh.

Larkin pitcher Jake McCleary (1-0) shut down the Wolves. The senior pitched 6 innings, allowing 3 earned runs on 4 hits. He struck out 8 and walked 3.

Senior leadoff man Reid Ellis went 3-for-5 with a double, junior Victor Saldana finished 2-for-3 and drove in a run, senior Scott Harm singled twice, sophomore Drew Shore (2-for-4) stole 2 bases and scored 2 runs, and junior Miguel Villafane singled, drew 3 walks and scored twice.
