Huntley husband, wife accused of growing pot inside home

A Huntley couple was arrested on felony drug charges Wednesday after police said they found more than 300 grams of marijuana and eight actively growing cannabis plants in their home.

Larry Durham, 39, and Terri Southard-Durham, 39, face charges of unlawful production of cannabis plants, unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to deliver and unlawful possession of cannabis stemming from what police said they located while serving a search warrant at their home in the 10400 block of Oxford Drive.

The search culminated a joint investigation by Huntley Police and the McHenry County Sheriff's Office launched by a tip, Huntley Chief John Perkins said.

"Somebody came forward to one of our officers with suspicions about what was happening in the house," he said.

Besides the drugs and plants, authorities said officers located nutrients, growing lights, ballasts and exhaust tubing used to grow marijuana.

The couple spent the night in McHenry County jail before appearing in court Thursday morning to have bond set. Terri Southard-Durham later posted $5,000 to go free pending her next court appearance while her husband remained locked up, unable to post $12,000. Both are scheduled to appear in court again Friday.

If found guilty of the charges, each would face a maximum two to five years in prison, though probation is also possible for all the charges.
