Americans don't want intrusive government
I am a 62-year-old owner of a small business in Palatine. I also have health issues that keep me from easily obtaining health insurance. From 1964 until 2008 I was a Republican. That changed when I lost confidence in the Republican party's ability to follow through on their commitment to following the constitution they swore to protect and defend. Since then I have been an independent voter.
Even though I am one of those who would probably benefit from the health care law, I do not believe it is in accord with the constitution or the spirit upon which our government is founded.
Since before our country was founded people from all over the world came to America for the opportunity we provided. They came seeking relief from over intrusive invasive governments.
They wanted the opportunity to prove themselves and improve themselves. This has been the "American dream." Not to own a home; not to be dependent on the government; not to be guaranteed anything except the freedom to be their best. Nowhere in the constitution does it call for the federal government to become an insurance company. The constitution was written to protect the people from an over intrusive government.
The constitution has been described as a living document and therefore must change with society. It is not. It is a foundation upon which the greatest nation the world has ever know was founded.
