Sparkles, feathers and snakes: Critiquing Evan's costumes
OK, admit it. As closely as you're paying attention to the jumps and spins during a figure skating competition, you're also checking out the costumes - critiquing the color choices, the sparkles, the feathers and, in the case of Olympic gold medalist Evan Lysacek, the snakes.
But what do the real fashion experts think?
We turned to Two K Productions co-owners Kristy Brezinsky and Kristen Frederick who produce Fashion Week Naperville to put in their two cents on some of Lysacek's costumes over the years.
Here's what they had to say.
Moscow | 2005
Brezinsky: The sparkly vest with the conservative button-down oxford shirt and traditional red tie was not a cohesive look. It looked too ordinary to be a skating costume.
Frederick: This looks a little Charlie Chaplin-ish to me, trying to look formal but in the end it looks a little frumpy.
Portland | 2005
Frederick: Matador! I love it! The color combo is fabulous and it brings out the details on the jacket, which, by the way, is gorgeous. I want one to pair with denim. Is that OK?
Brezinsky: I love the details on the jacket and the fit! The long yellow tie is a little distracting; a smaller black one would have complimented the ensemble more.
St. Paul | 2008
Brezinsky: This look really suits him. The draped shirt has great movement on the ice. It is romantic, minimalist, and reminded me of "Romeo and Juliet."
Frederick: Aye, matey! Very "Pirates of the Caribbean," only cleaner! I love the draping on the shirt - lots of movement. Looks great on him!
Los Angeles | 2009
Brezinsky: This costume is sexy, masculine and dramatic. The garment is well-tailored and compliments his body.
Frederick: Awesome! Edgy and cool! My very wise partner, Kristy, hits the nail on the head - totally compliments his body!
Vancouver | 2010
Frederick: Ohmygoodness. I hate snakes. I have a paralyzing fear, so this costume is a no go for me! Since I skip the reptile section at the zoo, I couldn't really look at this one long enough to make a decent judgment other than it's well-tailored and the crystal-encrusted snakes must have taken a lot of time.
Brezinsky: Perfection! The crystal-encrusted snakes were dramatic without being over the top. The costume was impeccably tailored and flawless. He looked like an Olympic champion before he even stepped foot on the ice!
Vancouver | 2010 Part 2
Brezinsky: I loved the different textures that were used but would have liked to have seen a little color.
Frederick: You know, I actually like the tone-on-tone with the gunmetal accents. The feathers and the draping on the bodice are eye-catching!
