Sophomore Hannah Perryman struck out 13 and allowed just 4 hits as Elgin beat DeKalb 5-3 Monday in Game 1 of a nonconference doubleheader.

DeKalb came back and won the second game 6-3.

Brandi Hernandez was 2-for-4 with a triple for the Maroons in Game 1, while Mari Aguilera went 3-for-3 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI and Jaclyn Navarro added a double and an RBI. Elgin had 11 hits in the opener.

In the nightcap, Jennifer Fulton allowed just 3 earned runs but suffered the loss in her first varsity start in the circle. Alex Dell had a double for the Maroons (2-1).

Belvidere North 5, Larkin 4: Belvidere North scored 3 runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to steal this nonconference win from Larkin (1-1). Corinne Wimmer, Lexi Smithberg, Anna Esterino and Kelsey Lodge each had 2 hits for the Royals. Megan Johnson and Nikki Banks each drove in 2 runs. Smithberg suffered the loss in the circle.

Sandwich 1, Hampshire 0: Jennifer Hurst struck out 11 and gave up just 3 hits but Hampshire (0-2) only had 2 hits of its own in this nonconference setback. Kaitlyn Bruscato had a double for the Whip-Purs.
