Arlington Hts. teen charged in armed robbery of pizza delivery man
If he's convicted of using a knife to rob a Rosati's Pizza delivery man of two pizzas, an 18-year-old Arlington Heights man could face six to 30 years in prison.
Because Billy Ray Cleveland, of the 700 block of E. Golf Road, was charged with the Class X felony of armed robbery, probation would not be available, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Adam Klugman.
The incident took place late Saturday afternoon in the 900 block of E. Shady Way, Arlington Heights, where the victim was making a delivery, Klugman said.
The defendant approached the victim, said Klugman, brandished a large hunting knife and demanded the two pizzas, which the victim surrendered.
The delivery man provided police a description which led to the arrest of Cleveland, who admitted robbing the victim with a knife, Klugman said.
A Cook County judge set bond at $40,000 Monday for Cleveland, who has no criminal convictions, Klugman said.
Cleveland next appears in a Rolling Meadows courtroom on April 15.
