Quinn still mum on lt. gov. preference

Gov. Pat Quinn is staying mum on his pick for the Democratic lieutenant governor nominee.

But the Chicago Democrat had good things to say Monday about state Sen. Susan Garrett, one of the would-be nominees.

Quinn called the Lake Forest Democrat a "good friend," a "strong voice for the environment" and a "leader on ethics."

Garrett is one of 17 applicants who survived an initial screening by state party leaders and will be considered at Saturday's meeting of the Democratic Party's state central committee.

Quinn says he'll reveal his pick before then.

The Democrats are looking for a new nominee because the Feb. 2 primary winner, Scott Lee Cohen, resigned amid questions about his past.

Quinn says he's confident the Democrats will have a good team in the November election.
