Participant lists should be private

At the Naperville Park District, we support a strong FOIA law that leads to more open government. At the same time, any complex law can lead to unintended negative consequences.

Our immediate concern is that the current law requires park districts to disclose participant lists, including names, schedules, and contact information of children. This information could be used to stalk the whereabouts of minors. To ensure the safety of our children, we ask that legislators restore the previous exception for release of this personal information.

Knowing the precise whereabouts and schedules of participants does not further our mutually shared goal of accountable and transparent government.

President, Naperville Park Board
