Matos outpitches Buehrle in Padres' win
GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Mat Latos outdueled Mark Buehrle to lead a San Diego Padres split squad to a 4-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Saturday.
Buehrle was solid over his 5 2-3 innings, allowing a two-run single in the fourth and eight hits while striking out three.
The 22-year-old Latos, who made 10 starts for the Padres last season, struck out five in five innings. His only blemish was a solo homer to Andruw Jones in the second. Reliever Tim Stauffer tossed three shutout innings for San Diego, striking out five.
Luis Durango tripled in a run in the Padres' seventh off Chicago reliever Daniel Hudson.
