Lawyer accused of assaulting woman

A suburban Chicago lawyer has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a woman who is tied to a case he is handling in Cook County Circuit Court.

Palos Heights attorney Daniel Florey is charged with misdemeanor battery in connection with the incident, which occurred outside a Markham courtroom.

When contacted Friday, Florey said the allegations "are completely false."

According to authorities, the 48-year-old Florey was representing the woman in a hearing for an order of protection when a conversation outside the courtroom became combative.

When the plaintiff's mother suggested they return to court, Florey called the women "ludicrous" and "juvenile." Florey was allegedly observed pushing the mother.

Authorities say a deputy intervened and attempted to question the attorney, who allegedly responded with a profanity, prompting his arrest.

Florey posted 10 percent of his $1,000 bond and was released.
