Antioch Curves Food Drive:Curves, 911 Toft Ave., Antioch is hosting the 12th annual Curves Food Drive through March. The effort will help stock the shelves at Open Arms Mission in Antioch. Bring in a bag of nonperishable groceries or a $30 donation during the month of March and Curves will waive its membership fee. (847) 838-9905.D70 fundraiser nears $15,000:In just over a month, Libertyville Elementary District 70 students, teachers and parents collected nearly $15,000 to help a school in Port-au-Prince, Haiti that was damaged in the earthquake. A check for $14,800 will be presented during the March 22 school board meeting to Haitian native Ruth Paul Caudle, who founded the Spirit of Truth School in Guibert, Haiti. District 70 students set up hot chocolate stands, sold homemade crafts door-to-door, and held bake sales. Teachers collected tents, blankets and toiletries and donated ticket sale money from a staff talent show. Five-gallon water jugs were posted at each school to collect loose change. Caudle said she was overwhelmed by the donation and that it will go a long way toward repairing the structure and helping students in need.Potter exhibit comes to library:A traveling exhibit called "Harry Potter's World: Renaissance Science, Magic and Medicine" arrives at the Vernon Area Public Library in Lincolnshire this month. The exhibit opens Sunday and runs through May 2. The exhibition, using materials from the National Library of Medicine, explores Harry Potter's world, its roots in Renaissance science and the ethical questions that affected not only the wizards in Harry Potter, but also the historical thinkers featured in the series.
