Two games, two shutouts for Carmel Catholic's girls soccer team.

The Corsairs picked up their first win of the season Thursday, shutting out visiting Prairie Ridge 2-0 in the Carmel Quad.

Illinois-bound Kassidy Brown and Lauren Bowles scored for Carmel, which was coming off a scoreless tie with Hersey. Corsairs keeper Maddie Allen made 3 saves.

McHenry 2, Grayslake Central 1: Allie Black's left-footed volley into the upper 90 of the net pulled the Rams even in the second half, but they wound up losing their season opener.

Grayslake Central keepers Kat Dickson and Maggie Klees combined for 8 saves.

Buffalo Grove 1, Vernon Hills 0: The Bison scored in the second half.

Crystal Lake South 3, Grayslake North 0: Brooke Sauer made 10 saves in goal, as the Knights dropped their season opener.

"Brooke Sauer played a great game, despite the three goals against," Grayslake North coach Adam Decaluwe said. "She kept us in the game all night."
