Semi overturns, spills load of honey in DuPage County
A semi-truck hauling honey that tipped over on I-294 spilling honey all over the shoulder of the highway Thursday morning has been cleaned up, officials said.
Sgt. Tim Zych of the Illinois State Police said the semi was moving from I-290 eastbound to I-294 southbound when the driver said his brakes locked up and caused him to strike a barrier.
The truck rolled over after striking the barrier, spilling a 25,000-pound load of honey on the shoulder and grass of the highway interchange.
"It really is a sticky situation out there," Zych deadpanned. "But, it's isolated to the shoulder right now and all lanes are open."
He said the semi driver was taken from the scene to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.
No citations have so far been issued, he added.
