Lake Zurich middle south adds baseball theme to 'Romeo & Juliet'
Most people are familiar with the story of "Romeo and Juliet."
This weekend, students at Lake Zurich Middle School South are putting their own unique, Chicago-style twist on the classic play written by William Shakespeare, which follows the romance of two people from warring families.
In Lake Zurich, instead of the Capulets and the Montagues, the feuding "families" are the Cubs and White Sox baseball teams.
From baseball bat sword fights in Cubs and White Sox uniforms to announcers narrating the entire "game," this production is sure to be a hit.
More than 100 students from Middle School South auditioned, and more than 60 students, including the stage crew, are involved in the production.
This is a fairly large cast for a play because, as opposed to musicals, there isn't any singing or dancing.
Most of the entertainment relies solely on the actors' delivery of their lines.
There is a large ensemble cast of 15 students divided between the Cubs and Sox teams, and the story takes place on Wrigley and Cellular fields, respectively.
Audiences have never seen Shakespeare performed quite like this before!
