St. Charles teen admits to school burglary
A St. Charles man pleaded guilty to a burglary charge Tuesday for his role in the theft of a safe from a school for children with special needs.
Casey P. Fecteau, 19, of the 1200 block of Ronzheimer Avenue, pleaded guilty to a Class 2 felony burglary in exchange for two years of probation and 180 days in the county jail.
Fecteau was arrested along with his 17-year-old sister Joanna within days of the Dec. 12 burglary at Mades-Johnstone Center School, 1304 Ronzheimer Ave.
Police said the burglars entered through a broken window and stole a 24-square-inch safe that contained a "small amount" of money and was later discovered in the Fecteaus' backyard, about one block away from the school.
"He realized what a stupid mistake it was," Fecteau's attorney, Scott Sheen, said. "I'm sure he's glad it's over."
Sheen said Fecteau was released from jail Thursday because he's already served at least half of his sentence, the minimum required under state law.
Joanna Fecteau remains charged with two counts of burglary and has yet not entered a plea. Her next court date is April 14 in front of Judge T. Jordan Gallagher.
