2 charged in hammer attack on Naperville teen

Two men are facing aggravated battery charges after attacking a Naperville teen with a hammer, police officials said.

Solonius H. Caldwell, 36, and Cameron D. Delaney, 18, face the felony charges in the attack outside the Delta Sonic Car Wash at 1780 North Aurora Road in Naperville, police Cmdr. Mike Anders said.

He said officers were summoned to Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora on Feb. 27, where the 17-year-old was taken by friends following the attack.

Anders said the 17-year-old victim was in his car at the car wash waiting for friends when a black SUV driven by Caldwell and carrying Delaney blocked the victim in.

The victim recognized the SUV and got out of his car to speak with Caldwell and Delaney, at which point Delaney got out of the SUV and hit the victim once in the head with the hammer.

Caldwell and Delaney climbed back in the SUV after the attack and fled the scene.

"Mr. Delaney and the victim had been in an ongoing dispute over something that led to the confrontation," he said. "This was not a random attack or anything at all."

Delaney was charged with hitting the victim with the hammer, while Caldwell was charged with blocking the victim's car in, preventing him from leaving.

Bond for both Caldwell and Delaney has been set at $50,000, Anders said. It's unclear if the two still are in custody.

Anders said Caldwell is scheduled to be in court Monday, while Delaney is set to appear April 5.
